W. McMaster "Mac" Clarke '63 SED

W. McMaster

Marge and I value university education. While living in Connecticut, we were both in graduate programs at the University of New Haven. Marge took courses in community psychology and I completed a program in the School for Executive Development, the predecessor to the Executive MBA program.

We moved to Tennessee so that I could continue my work for Olin Corporation, doing the engineering design of chemical processes for industrial and consumer products. Marge obtained a master's degree in criminal justice from the University of Tennessee Chattanooga and developed a career as an alcohol and drug counselor.

When we prepared our estate plans, we decided to include gifts to all three universities where we had studied. We learned that our retirement accounts are the best assets to use for our charitable legacy gifts, because the universities will receive our IRA gifts tax-free, and we can leave other assets to our daughters.

I chose to designate our legacy gifts for the Marjorie A. Clarke Endowed Scholarship Fund for Community Psychology, in memory of Marge and the studies that led to her fulfilling career as an alcohol and drug counselor. I want to help future graduate students have similar educational opportunities.
